I ran across the benefits of eating cucumbers in the social media, and thought it would be a good idea to pass it on to my readers.
There is no seasonality with cucumbers, so you can consume them throughout the year.
Here are some good reasons to do so:
- DIGESTION AND WEIGHT LOSS
Cucumbers are high in water and low in calories, so they are excellent for weight loss. Moreover, they are rich in fiber and thus help digestion, and prevent constipation.
- FIGHT AGAINST CANCER
Cucumbers are high in these lignans, secoisolariciresinol, lariciresinol, and prinoresinol, which prevent various cancer types, such as breast, ovary, prostate, and uterus.
- MINERALS
Cucumbers are high in minerals, including potassium, magnesium, and silicon, which are needed for numerous functions in the body.
- FIGHT DIABETES, LOWER CHOLESTEROL, AND CONTROL BLOOD PRESSURE
Fiber, magnesium, and potassium, all of which are found in high levels in cucumbers regulate blood pressure. The juice of cucumbers is rich in a hormone that is needed for pancreatic cells to produce insulin.
- ELIMINATE TOXINS
Cucumbers are loaded with water, which eliminates waste from the body, and even dissolves kidney stones.
Cucumber juice is also a great diuretic.
- VITAMINS
Cucumbers contain the needed amounts of vitamins during the day. They are rich in vitamins C, A, and B, which boost immunity, and energize the body.
- PROMOTE JOINT HEALTH
Silicon in cucumbers strengthens the joints and the connective tissues, and when mixed with carrot juice, it treats gout and arthritis pain by reducing uric acid.
How about going out and buying some right away?
A BRIEF ADMINISTRATIVE NOTE
When I write something for the blog, I post it on Face Book, Twitter, and Google. And, of course, an e-mail goes out to all subscribers that a new post is available.
I am not a Twitter user, but by chance came across a comment from a reader the other day.
Everybody would benefit from such comments and my answer, if you could write it in the comment section, at the bottom of the page. I think you have to be a subscriber to do that.
Or, you could send me an e-mail:
Thanks. See you all next time.
