I’ve watched the last video and my ordeal is over. What one does for friends.

Anyway, as I put forth in the previous post everything hinges on your lifestyle choices.

  • Do you eat healthy foods
  • Do you exercise regularly
  • Do you practice mental relaxation
  • Do you challenge your brain

Would you believe that I have written 19 posts on topics that the doctors who were interviewed also go into, even though I don’t think I mention Alzheimer’s in any of them?

I think the hard part is getting people to eat right. As Dr. Fortanasce (day 8) bluntly put forth:

“Today’s lifestyle is sad, with processed foods, HFCS, obesity, etc.”

He points out that, “Alzheimer’s starts at childhood”, with parents NOT TEACHING / IMPOSING healthy eating habits on their kids.

One of the doctors who was interviewed, said that they were teaching primary school children to read food labels (ingredients) and the parents were actually learning from their kids.

Unfortunately, my daughter still doesn’t look at food labels.

IDEALLY YOU SHOULD ONLY EAT FOODS WITH NO LABELS.

I’ll briefly go over, what we should strive for in adapting a lifestyle that is health promoting but first a quote from President Kennedy:

“The time to fix the roof is when the sun is shining”.

This was Dr. Perlmutter ‘s comment during his interview (day 12) and is something we should all think about very seriously.

DON’T WAIT UNTILL YOU ARE SICK TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT.

And, don’t count on mainstream medicine when you start having cognitive problems, because, as Dr. Perlmutter says, they treat the smoke rather than the fire.

Although the healthy lifestyle I talk about has other areas that need our attention, WHAT WE EAT probably comes at the top of the list.

I won’t go into details because I have written about this so many times.

As a general guideline, read (2) on the reading list at the end of this post.

Dr. Agostino (day 7) and Dr. Bredesen (day 11) suggest a Ketogenic Diet, which I have written about.

Please read (14) on the reading list for details of the Ketogenic Diet.

Dr. Agostino (day 7), Dr. Bredesen (day 11) and Dr. Perlmutter (day 12) all outline the benefits of Intermittent Fasting.

Please read (7) on the reading list for details.

You should always, every day, include Coconut Oil, Prebiotics and Probiotics into your meal plan. I learned from Dr. Pelmutter that Apple Cider Vinegar is a prebiotic.

Please read (12) and (3) on the reading list for details.

Now, a list of supplements suggested by the doctors interviewed:

  • Omega-3 (preferably krill oil)
  • Magnesium
  • Potassium
  • Turmeric
  • ALA
  • B12
  • Folate
  • CoQ10
  • Vitamin E
  • Vitamin D
  • Ginko Biloba

I think that’s enough about what to put into our mouths, but I can’t help myself from repeating:

Try not to consume any food or beverage with a label (list of ingredients) on it.

Now, lets look at exercising.

With the exception of Dr. Fortanasce (day 8), all our doctors seem to be advising people to da aerobic exercises. Dr. Perlmutter (day 12) says he runs every morning.

If you do only aerobic exercises, you train only your slow twitch muscle fibers and this is WRONG. You also lay yourself open to free radicals (oxidative damage).

My suggestion is weight (resistance) training, and HIIT.

Please read (1) for details on HIIT.

As I said, the only doctor whom I agree with on exercising was Dr. Fortanasce (day 8) and he suggested ISOMETRIC exercises for those who don’t go to the gym.

You can Goggle it and get a wide variety of Isometric exercises.

When it comes to walking I’m all for it. But walking is not an exercise; it is an action you take to go from point A to point B.

Please read (4 and 5) for the benefits of walking.

Calming your brain.

Please read (10) on the reading list for an outline as to why you should meditate and (19) for the benefits of tapping.

Challenging your brain.

This is very important; you have to keep challenging your brain.

Crossword puzzles and Sudoku are OK but, as Dr. Fortanasce (day 8) says, just like muscle tissue “, if you don’t use it, you lose it”. He’s talking about the brain, of course.

  • Brush your teeth with the other hand
  • Walk backwards (be careful doing this)
  • Learn a new language.

Keep challenging your brain.

GETTING RID OF CHRONIC INFLAMMATION SHOULD BE YOUR NUMBER ONE PRIORITY

This is mostly about what you eat and drink, but please read (18) and (15). Also, watch the video on (11). given what is put forth in (17) give your lymph system a hand by using a rebounder (small trampoline) and dry brushing.

Given what is put forth in (17), give your lymph system a hand by using a rebounder (small trampoline) and dry brushing.

LASTLY LET ME TOUCH UPON EPIGENETICS

Did you know that only about 1 % of your DNA is inherited? So, where does the 99 % come from? Well, it comes from our microbiome, about 100 trillion bacteria that live in our gut and skin. Dr. Perlmutter (day 12) states that given this, we can influence, turn on good DNA and turn off bad DNA by the LIFESTYLE WE CHOOSE. This is Epigenetics, read about it in (16)

I hope what I’ve written has been, will be, of use. Start today; remember what President Kennedy said.

I’ll be on a friend’s boat next week, so see you all the week after.
