Today, I’m going to go over what I eat, how I exercise, etc., on a typical day of my life.
Here goes…
5:30 Get-up and start oil-pulling with coconut oil while getting dressed. Oil pulling is swishing the oil through your teeth. This cleans and kills all the bacteria in your mouth, and I highly recommend it. After 10-15 minutes, I spit the oil out (don’t swallow all those bacteria) and do a mouthwash with a little hydrogen peroxide mixed with water and then brush my teeth.
Then I mix some bicarbonate of soda and lemon juice in a large glass of water and drink it before leaving for the gym.
6:00 I warm-up for 10 minutes on the rebounder (mini trampoline). Rebounding helps the lymph system eliminate metabolic waste from the body.
6:15 TODAY IS QUADRICEP AND SHOULDER DAY
A1.LEG PRESS:
15 reps wit 100 kg.
8 reps with 110 kg.
4 reps with 120 kg.
4 negatives with 70 kg. Press with both legs, lower with one.
A2.LEG EXTENSION
15 reps with 50 kg.
8 reps with 55 kg.
4 reps with 60 kg.
4 negatives with 45 kg.
B1.SHOULDER PRESS
15 reps with 25 kg.
8 reps with 30 kg.
4 reps with 35 kg.
4 negatives with 50 kg. Press up with both arms, lower with one. Possible only on the machine.
B2.LATERAL RAISE
15 reps with 12 kg.
8 reps with 14 kg.
4 reps with 16 kg.
4 negatives with 20 kg.
A1 and A2 comprise a superset, and are executed without any rest, i.e., you do 15 reps of leg presses with 100 kg. and immediately do 15 reps of leg extensions with 50 kg. The same goes for B1 and B2.
PLANK one minute
That’s my buddy Mehmet Önkal doing the plank. It’s good for your core muscles.
It’s 6:45 and I’m done with the weights. If the weather permits (no rain), I go outside and walk for 30 minutes. Otherwise, I use the treadmill, which I don’t like for reasons explained before.
I’m home by 7:45 and drink a glass of Kombucha upon my arrival
Then, I drink my favorite “smoothie”
The ingredients are as follows:
Raspberries, blueberries, blackberries, goji berries, ground turmeric, black pepper, ground cloves, cinnamon, ground ginger and a scoop of Leucine, which is an amino acid that promotes muscle growth. (You can substitute a non-sweetened, non-flavored whey protein powder for this). Toss it all into the blender, pour in a glass of water kefir and blend/liquefy.
Then it’s off to the shower.
I don’t use commercial deodorants filled with all kinds of harmful chemicals. Antiperspirants, for example, have aluminum compounds, which have been linked to Alzheimers and other illnesses.
What I use, and highly recommend to you, is 2 teaspoons of bicarbonate of soda and some hot water in this:
Then use it as you would your commercial deodorant.
Then, I stand on my left leg, stretch out my arms and maintain my balance for 60 seconds. It’s better to do it with your eyes closed, but I can only manage about 10 seconds. It’s an excellent “exercise” for balance. You’ll thank me when you’re old.
I get dressed and MEDITATE for 15-20 minutes.
It’s breakfast now.
My breakfast is a glass of freshly squeezed vegetable juice and my “oatmeal supreme”.
I alternate between, carrot, celery, spinach, parsley, ginger root and turmeric root one day and beet, collard greens, broccoli, ginger root and turmeric root the next. To make the turmeric more bio-available don’t forget a teaspoon of freshly ground black pepper. Just as important, I put a tablespoon of black cumin oil in the vegetable juice. Black cumin oil’s benefits/usage goes all the way back to ancient Egypt and oil mixed with vegetable juice makes the nutrients in it more absorbable/bio-available. You should also pour some olive oil or coconut oil or black cumin oil on, say, tomatoes for the same reason.
Now, my first TRANSGRESSION; the above pictured oatmeal concoction. I soak a cup of oatmeal in water kefir overnight. Then, when I’m ready for breakfast, I grate an organic apple, mix the oatmeal with it and add the following:
1 tablespoon of coconut oil
1 teaspoon of chestnut honey
1/2 cup of blueberries
1/4 cup of dried black mulberries
5-10 walnuts
Cinnamon
Mix with coconut milk and sprinkle some pomegranate arils on top.
Yes, it’s quite delicious. But oats are a grain and, as you know, I usually don’t eat grains. Recall that oats are a prebiotic and kefir is a probiotic. What do we have when we combine them? A symbiotic, which gives an unbelievable boost to our immune system.
At about 9:30 I’m in the office and have my Turkish coffee, with no sugar, and a glass of water with lemon juice.
Then, my freshly squeezed wheat grass juice is delivered and I drink it up and chase it with water and lemon juice.
Before lunch, I mix a half-teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda in a glass of water and drink it up.
13:00 LUNCH
This salad is made from salad greens, arugula, cress, celery, raw broccoli, raw asparagus, half an avocado, red cabbage, parsley, spring onions, slightly cooked shitake mushrooms, cherry tomatoes, grated raw Jerusalem artichokes, pumpkin seeds and left over grilled beef from last night’s dinner. The dressing is virgin olive oil and lemon juice, salt, pepper and, again, a sprinkling of pomegranate arils on top.
A cup of home made yogurt accompanies all my office lunches.
Consuming yogurt, a milk product, is also a transgression as I don’t consume milk or milk products, but the probiotic importance and the fact that we make it at home from raw buffalo and cow’s milk, is a good enough excuse.
During my day in the office, I drink green tea, sage tea, black tea and my favorite; herbal tea with spices such as cinnamon, ginger, cloves, cardamom, fennel, rooibos, etc.
An after lunch Turkish coffee really hits the spot.
14:00 I go for a half hour walk, weather permitting.
17:30 I’m home. I have a glass of Kombucha and some pistachios and macadamia nuts.
18:00 I MEDITATE for 15-20 minutes.
19:00 Now for the major TRANSGRESSION, a couple of glasses of Rakı, our national drink. It’s about 90 proof, but one mixes it with an equivalent amount of water, that’s what turns it white, and adds ice.
It’s called LION’S MILK, by the way. It clears the mind and relaxes you.
ANOTHER TRANSGRESSION; I enjoy a cigar with my Rakı.
This is not an every night occurrence, but; I must admit, very enjoyable.
Between you and I, I also enjoy a cigarette now and then, and admit that this is the stupidest thing I do. It’s never more than 3-5 a day and sometimes I don’t indulge for a month or so. Still, it is a stupid thing to do.
Anyway, DO AS I SAY AND NOT AS I DO.
Seriously though, as Mark Sisson says in his Mark’s Daily Apple web site: Follow
The 80-20 rule. Do what we suggest for 80 % of the time and you can afford to transgress for 20 % of the time.
20:00 Dinner
Dinner is grilled lamb, steamed broccoli and asparagus and artichokes.
The artichokes are cooked in olive oil and eaten cold; the Turkish way.
The steamed vegetables have a tablespoon of coconut oil on them and a sprinkling of cayenne pepper. I love Coleman’s mustard and my beverage is Organic Apple Cider vinegar (with the mother), ¼ of a cup mixed with water.
As desert, I have a few dark chocolate covered blueberries: This is not a transgression, is it?
Then it’s reading or watching some TV time.
Before bed, I have another glass of Kombucha.
23:00 GETTING READY FOR BED
I brush my teeth with toothpaste that doesn’t contain any harmful chemicals, such as Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, and then I use a water-pick. You wouldn’t believe the stuff that sticks between your teeth even after a vigorous brushing. My teeth are too close together so I cannot floss. Thus, the water-pick was the ideal solution.
I strongly recommend flossing or using the water-pick.
Something that has become a habit while brushing my teeth is an “exercise” that works your transverse abdominis (the muscles that act like a corset for your spine). As you are slightly bent over while brushing your teeth, inhale and then exhale and try to touch your spine with your belly button. You don’t have to hold your breath; take small breathes. Doing this for 2 minutes in the morning and evening could prevent future “back” problems and help cure existing ones.
The last thing I do before going to bed is use my nety pot, pictured below, to cleanse my nasal passages. You can make the mixture of Himalayan salt (1/2 teaspoon) and bicarbonate of soda (1/2 a teaspoon) that you mix with 250 ml. of good, clean water yourself and use an eye dropper to squeeze some in one nostril and make it come out of the other and then reverse nostrils.
My wife says that I used to snore occasionally before I started using
